Houston Area – La Porte, TX (Gulf Coast Regional Office)
Reporting to the Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for performing professional HR-related duties while working closely with employees, members of the human resources and management team in supporting the operational needs of the organization. This position has a strong focus on recruitment/onboarding but also carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: payroll, employee relations, training, performance management, policy implementation, employment law compliance and benefits administration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties may vary according to region, division, area, and/or assignment. Other duties may be assigned.
Conducts full cycle recruiting for all levels of exempt and non-exempt employees, interns, externs, and temporary employees including screening, interviewing and recruiting applicants, conducting new-employee orientations interns, and contingent workforce. Work with managers and supervisors to meet the needs of their departments, create job requisitions, write and post advertisements on internal/external careers page and job boards complying with all EEOC guidelines, prescreen candidate resumes, conduct interviews both by phone and in person. Follow company protocol for new hire approval, write offer letters, initiate background checks, and conduct new hire orientation
Read and review all incoming resumes to determine compatibility with advertised job, forward acceptable candidates to the appropriate manager for further review
Assist with onboarding process, ensuring all required documents are executed and received and all necessary access/equipment is provided.
Process new hire paperwork according to new hire checklist, set up new employee files as well as all termination paperwork.
Plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster positive attitude towards company goals
Responsible for maintaining HRIS and back-up payroll processing; analyzes, prepares and process payroll data; uses payroll system to produce accurate, timely payroll
Verify timecards in order to process payroll timely and accurately.
Verifies commissions for processing and distributes commission reports.
Performs per-pay-period timesheet audits including review of exceptions and missing timesheets; contacts supervisors, as needed, to make corrections.
10. Answers payroll and time and attendance inquiries as they arise.
Maintains garnishment files and track garnishments for completion.
Runs and prepares various payroll and General Ledger reports on a per pay period basis
Work closely with HR Director to assist with benefit administration, including enrollment, eligibility and plan questions, and status changes.
Demonstrate a proactive approach to identify and resolve HR, Payroll and Benefits administration issues. Performs benefits administration to include open enrollment, claims resolution, change reporting, and communicating benefit information to employees.
Resolve employee requests, complaints, and problems courteously and promptly.
Develops great rapport with managers to coach on performance management, hiring best practices, disciplinary actions, and termination processes
Handles employee relations coaching, counseling and documentation using sound judgment and problem-solving skills while considering morale, diplomacy and approach strategy.
Conduct confidential investigations to ensure a reasonable and compliant response in accordance with state and federal employment laws
Coordinate and administer all company leaves of absence, including FMLA, personal leave, military leave, jury duty, bereavement leave, etc. Intake of leave requests, sending required notices, forms and letters, and determining leave eligibility. Ensure federal and state compliance of all leaves, including certification of FMLA leaves. Serve as the primary point of contact for and manage all leave inquiries, educating employees and managers on the leave process and related policies.
Inputs and maintains employee data in the HRIS system such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, terminations, and employee statistics for reporting.
Prepares regular and special reports using HRIS. Maintain employee information and personnel files.
Perform benefits administration to include claims resolution, change reporting, auditing & approving invoices for payment, communicating benefit information to employees, conducting open enrollment meetings, etc.
Administer worker’ s compensation activity, maintain related records, reports and files, and adhere to posting requirements;
Regular punctuality, attendance, and absence reporting in conformance with company policies is essential to the successful performance of this position
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and educator for other positions in the department and organization.
Education and/or Experience Bachelor’ s degree in an HR related field, a PHR certification, or a minimum of five years HR experience in a generalis/Sr. Generalist role.
